You been buying stuff, anon? Tell us about it.

This lady just texted me and as she packed all her shit to move she found a Tandy 1000 and wants to sell it to me. I have to check it out to see if it works but it comes with a color monitor and a printer. Gonna check it out come Monday and if it's all in line I'll likely get it.

Okay I got my Tandy 1000 SX for $40.00 and they gave me nice speakers and a bunch of other audio equipment from the 80s for free
Now I need to acquire a system disk or whatever it's asking for from me and then I'll be on my way to livin' it up with this top of the line IBM DOS machine.

They also included a keyboard of course but also a printer that takes typewriter ribbon ink, which I will never use.

oh yeah i forgot how spoilers work here
Old computers are great. They are so much simpler and more approachable than modern computers. With a bit of time you can understand their whole circuitry. The early computing experience is so raw and more connected to the inner workings of the computers, memory, electronics, etc. It's fascinating. If they weren't so expensive and uncommon in my part of the world I could get into it more. I'd probably go for something with BASIC and good graphics routines, maybe a commodore? I have a programming/EE background and it would be fun to play around.

Damn good for $40. So, what's the plan for that machine?

For the longest time I wanted a commodore, sure I still do but now I've got this tandy to keep me occupied.

I'm gonna grab an XT IDE off the net after reading up a bit on forums, which apparently is where that tech originates from with enthusiasts, and I'm gonna play the games on it. There were a few games that used the, at the time, advanced graphics capabilities of the machine and many more that used the 3 channel sound as well. I'm gonna be patient with trying to find a joystick for it and maybe a mouse, but for now I don't see why i need anything more than the keyboard. I might replace that bottom 5ยผ" floppy drive with a 3.5" one, seeing as I can get an external usb drive to actually write to 3.5s with a new computer and I'm shit out of luck when it comes to writing to a 5ยผ".

Really I'm right now just looking forward to see how many DOS games I can get running on it. I know it's a lot but I'm not sure exactly how far i can push it. I don't think it'll run Duke or anything like that you know.

So I got an XT-IDE in to make it do things, waiting on a compact flash reader/writer to come in next week. Should be spending a lot of next weekend fucking with this and seeing what I can make happen.

I'm having such a difficult time with making this compactflash have my DOS on it. I did this series of things with VirtualBox to I guess install Dos 6.22 onto the CF(?) but it didn't work good, I'll try it again later. The CF card I got with the XT-IDE came with 6.22 already but it doesn't boot from it so idk I'm just trying to figure out what I can do to fix it or what I'm doing wrong in the first place. When i try to install DOS onto the CF using the virtual machine it tells me all about I need to reset cuz there's already DOS files on there but I don't want to delete them cuz it came with them for a reason! and idk I'm just being a scared retard about it.

It may indeed be possible, http://brutmanlabs.org/mTCP/mTCP.html
Funny enough that site says:
>2022-05-17 Testing in progress: Things might be a little slower because most of the content linked here is actually being served by the mTCP HTTP server running on an IBM PCjr from 1984.
